Passaic County Detainees sent to other jails--keep the pressure on
the Freeholders!
Over the past few days all, or nearly all, of the detainees held at
Passaic County Jail
have been transferred to other NJ jails. We have not been able to get
an official reason
for this, nor have we learned whether new detainees have been, or will
be brought to
Passaic County Jail. Hemneauth and Nigel have both been moved
to Hudson County Detention
Center. Anyone who has more info, please post it to this list.
Clearly this is in direct response to our organizing. But we don't know
yet if this is
the Freeholder's and the Sheriff's way of yielding to our demands that
they get out of
the detention business, or just a move to get rid of"trouble makers".
In any case, until and unless we get official word from the Freeholders
or the Sheriff
that they will stop holding detainees, we must keep the pressure up!
I've attached a
flyer for the October 14 Freeholder meeting. Let's start
organizing for this now, so
that in three weeks we will have 30 or 40 people there demanding a final
end to
detentions at Passaic County.
Also, it would be great if we could have a real presence at the New
York City End the
Occupations march this Sunday. This will be a good place
to reach out to new NJ people
and to circulate our ideas to New York people as well. I intend to be
there, passing out
our flyers. Will other people be going? Please contact me so we can
meet up and
distribute literature together.
